Summer Shower

Melon had her family baby shower for babe #2 last weekend. It was my first official summer get-together! The party had a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/East Indian flavor (might have been some gypsy elements in there, too). There were fragile-looking sari tablecloths, hookah lamps ("Ya put chur weed in thay-rrr!"), and yummy food: couscous, baklavah, flatbread and hummus (I don't think I spelled any of that correctly). This being a family party, there had to be rice and caldereta, too. Melon, being Melon, is of course gorgeous even in the tail-end of pregnancy (damn her)! She looked comfy even with only 3+ weeks to go.

Bina & Ganzoo were here, which made everything that much nicer! Beans went a bit crazy making henna tattoos on everyone. She was really good, too, though we teased her about guzzling beer while doing detail work. Ganzoo looked like a chillin' little island boy with his flowing hair and near-naked, all-year tan. He and Cham had fun jumping up and down, trying to get calamansi from the tree. It was heart-warming how he kept trying to pet Cham's hair and hold her hand. She can't wait to hang out with him all summer!

Jill was the ring leader for the small kiddies, as usual. She has the magic touch when it comes to Chameans, who is usually so shy with people she doesn't see often. Everytime she hangs out with the Juarez gals, Jill's always the first one she takes to. The lot of them (Joie, Jill, Marley, Ganz, and Cham) ran around indoors and out, took Nala for "walks" which were more like "drags", and introduced Cham to Little Einsteins. Cham was crabby with the grown-ups (she wasn't feelin' her uncles and aunties, for some reason), but she was very happy to play with her cousins.

Of course, no visit to West Covina would be complete without a look at our crib on Belinda Street, so we drove around the corner and I took a picture of the place. Ah, the memories in that old house! It's weird to think we haven't lived there in over a decade. The old girl has a new coat of outside paint, and Arsenio (the giant shrub that used to sit in front of the entrance) is gone, but she's basically the same as always.

Now, the good thing about my new job is I no longer feel the need to work during the summer, so I'm officially off until mid-August! WOO-HOO! I plan on doing nothing but hanging out and updating this blog, so hopefully you all won't get completely bored out of your minds and stop reading my drivel. Yay for summer break!

Par-tee!

My li'l momma had her third birthday party on June 9 (her actual birthday, which was nice!) at Grijalva Park in Naranja. She is currently obsessed with Curious George so we had a Curious George party, complete with a slightly eerie piƱata (wish I had a close-up photo of it... although that might have given me nightmares).

Chameans did her usual shtick of snubbing everyone under the guise of being shy, then leaving the crowds to play random games with Marley and the Juarez girls. Attentive guests caught a glimpse of her odd sense of fun-- she got a veterinarian costume as a gift, complete with a plastic needle and stethescope. She walked around sticking a Rollo-lookalike stuffed dog with the plastic needle over and over again.

I was too crazed to take a whole lot of pictures, but I managed a few gems. The highlight of the day was the grand introduction of Mini-Peaves! She is such a lovely lady, very mellow and laid-back. She gave her parents nothing more than a big poop to complain about (and really, who can complain about huge poops? They're so satisfying!).

Enjoy!

Daddy's Day

I still have to post pictures of Chamean's third birthday party, but I thought I'd be timely and wish all the dads out there a "Happy Father's Day" first. (A day late, but at least I remembered!) Here are the two kooks, taking a reading break.

Here she is with her best pal Poppy, whom she loves with all her heart. Happy Father's Day!

Yummy granddaughter kisses!

B-day

OMIGOD! What the hell just happened to me??

In about 2 minutes, it will have been three short years ago that I puffed one final time and a tiny, screaming little elf was introduced to the world. Happy birthday, Li'l Momma!
